&&&& – The David Lang Project

De vraag was om samen te werken met locale muziekstudenten en een stuk te maken op muziek van de Amerikaanse componist David Lang. Andros koos voor Face So Pale (1992, 9′), een stuk voor zes piano’s dat opgebouwd is rond de eenvoudige ontwikkeling van een tremolo. Face So Pale bestaat uit een mix van live en playback piano en omvat drie herhalingen waarbij eerst één, daarna drie en uiteindelijk zes delen van het pianowerk te horen zijn. Dit wordt weerspiegeld in de structuur van de choreografie, die ingaat op accumulatie en feedback systemen.

“I was curious how it was that accumulation of the same, changed a thing’s essential content. So the relationship between quantity and quality or property- we see this in all feedback systems- from a microphone and a speaker, to stampede crowds, to behaviors of the market- accumulation and interaction of the same, doesn’t just become ‘more’, but changes the thing itself. I was curious how a feedback system between bodies would work then.” (Andros Zins-Browne)
